
Pirates Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader At St. John's

Game 1 – St. John's 9, Seton Hall 0 (Five Innings)
How it Happened
- St. John's scored twice in the first inning, loading the bases before bringing home two runs on fielder's choices
- The Red Storm expanded their lead with three in the third and two in the fourth to go up 7-0
- St. John's would walk-off in the bottom of the fifth, using a two-run home run to put the run-rule into effect
- The Pirates were out-hit 10-1 in the setback and committed the game's lone error
- Sara Foster (Laguna Beach, Calif.) reached twice, going 1-for-1 with a walk
- The Pirates also got bases on balls from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) and Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.)
- Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) notched three strikeouts in a 1.1 inning relief stint
How It Happened
- In game two of the day it was The Hall taking an early lead, with Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) punching an RBI single up the middle in the opening frame to give the Pirates a 1-0 advantage
- The Pirates tacked on three more in the top of the third by way of a clutch two-out, two-strike bases-clearing double from Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.)
- St. John's would pull even in the bottom of the fourth, using a solo home run to get on the board before a pair of run-scoring singles with two outs made it 4-4
- The tie was short-lived as Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) delivered a go-ahead RBI single in top of the fifth
- That lead held until the bottom of the sixth, when St. John's took its first lead of the day with a two-run home run to make it 6-5
- The Hall loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh, but St. John's escaped the jam and held onto their lead with a pop-up and a pair of strikeouts
- The Pirates were out-hit 13-11, while the Red Storm had the game's lone two errors
- Walkden finished her day going 4-for-4 with two runs scored
- Foster and Allender both went 2-for-4, with the former scoring twice
- Beaver finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs
- Brianna Wallace (Fort Worth, Texas) stole her team-high 14th base in the fourth inning
- The four-hit day for Walkden was her first of the season and third game of three hits or more
- The Hall finished with double-digit hits in a game for the seventh time this year
The Pirates are back in action on Thursday, heading to Lehigh for a midweek match-up.
