
Pirates Split In Season Opening Play at UTSA Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Seton Hall softball team split two contests to open the 2018 campaign on Friday at Roadrunner Field. The two games were part of day one of the UTSA Softball Classic. Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) homered in each contest, while Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) twirled a complete game shutout in the first game of the day.

The Pirates are back in action for day two of the UTSA Softball Classic on Saturday, facing Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 3 p.m. before battling host UTSA at 8 p.m.

- The Hall got on the board and early with two first inning runs, which proved to be all it needed to back a stellar complete game shutout from Camp
- In the opening frame, Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) doubled before Arteaga's two-run blast came two batters later
- Camp finished with day allowing only four hits in 7.0 brilliant innings, striking out 10 against no walks
- Both sides finished with four hits on the day, as Sara Foster (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) singled with the extra-base knocks from Arteaga and Walkden
- All four hits allowed by Camp were singles, and the sophomore held ACU 1-for-8 with runners on base
- Camp's complete game was her sixth and her second career shutout
- The double for Walkden has the 37th in her career, moving into third in program history and 11 off the program record
- The Pirates again got on the board in the first inning, with Alyssa Prukop (Coto de Caza, Calif.) singling to bring home Walkden
- A&M-CC leveled the contest with a solo home run in the fourth inning before Arteafa took the lead right back with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth
- The Islanders pulled ahead in the top of the sixth with a two-run double that proved to be the game-winning hit
- Walkden went 2-for-4 as The Hall finished with a 7-6 edge in hits
- Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) got the start in the circle and tossed 4.0 innings of one-run ball
- Arteaga, Prukop and Walkden all notched a stolen base
