Foster Notches Three Hits In Setback at Creighton
4/15/2017 3:13:00 PM | Softball
OMAHA, Neb. – Despite a big offensive day from junior Sara Foster (Long Beach, Calif.) the Seton Hall softball team (19-18-1, 5-7 BIG EAST) dropped its series finale at Creighton (15-22, 6-6 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon. The 4-3 setback at CU Sports Complex marks the first time this season the Pirates have been swept in a conference series and their second series loss in four conference sets on the year.
Foster finished her day 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, adding a double on the afternoon. The Hall fell into an early 3-0 hole before Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) came on with two away in the bottom of the first to limit further damage. Foster got The Hall on the board with a two-run single in the top of the second to cut the lead to one, before CU notched another run in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead.
Turning Points
Down 4-2 in the top of the fourth, the Pirates loaded the bases with one away thanks to a pair of walks sandwiching a Foster single. After CU got a fly ball for the second out, Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) scored on an illegal pitch to the cut the lead back to one. With two on and two away Creighton managed to limit the damage with a strikeout and hold on to a 4-3 lead.
The Pirates threatened again in both the fifth and sixth innings, but in both instances Creighton was able to work around two-out baserunners and preserve the one-run lead. In the seventh the Pirates were unable to muster another rally and went down in order.
Inside The Numbers
- The Pirates were out-hit 9-4 in the setback, with a single from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) joining Foster's three hits
