Pirates Drop Midweek Tilt At Fordham
3/29/2017 6:31:00 PM | Softball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall softball team (14-12-1) dropped a non-conference tilt at Fordham (25-7) by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Bahoshy Softball Complex. The contest was the lone midweek action for the Pirates this week before they re-enter league play over the weekend at DePaul.
After three and a half scoreless frames, the Rams broke through for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 advantage. With one on and two away, Fordham strung together back-to-back doubles and a run-scoring single to chase Seton Hall starter Madison Strunk.
Fordham added two more in the bottom of the fifth, then used a big defensive play in left to take away a three-run home run from Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) that would have cut the lead to two in the top of the sixth. The five-run lead would hold up for the Rams as they set the Pirates down in order in the top of the seventh.
Inside The Numbers
- The Pirates were out-hit 13-6 and committed the game's lone error
- Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) went 2-for-3 and four other Pirates notched a hit
- Strunk allowed three runs in 3.2 innings before Head gave up a pair in 2.1 relief frames
- The game saw a total of five pitchers combine to issue only one walk
- Wednesday's game was originally to be played Tuesday in South Orange, but was moved to the Bronx as the back-end of a Fordham doubleheader after rain on Tuesday
- The all-time series with Fordham now stands at 12-12-1 after the first meeting since 2010
- Peck's multi-hit effort was her fifth of the season and raised her season average to .382
- All six hits for the Pirates in the setback were singles
- Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) singled in the top of the third and has reached base safely in eight-straight contests
The Pirates will jump back into BIG EAST play over the weekend, heading to Chicago to take on DePaul. The Hall will take on the Blue Demons in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 before a single game on Sunday.
