The Hall Splits Doubleheader To Open BIG EAST Play
3/25/2017 5:26:00 PM | Softball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The first day of BIG EAST play was an eventful one for the Seton Hall softball team (14-10-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) as the Pirates split a doubleheader with Villanova (12-9, 1-1) on Saturday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field. The Hall took a dramatic 8-6 win in a 10-inning epic in game one before VU responded with an 8-2 triumph in game two. The rubber match of the series has been moved up to a 10 a.m. start on Sunday.
Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.) played the hero in the first game of the day with a walk-off three-run home run in the 10th inning of a contest that saw The Hall rally from four different deficits. Over the course of two games the Pirates banged out 22 hits including a program-record tying five home runs in game one.

- The Wildcats built an early 3-0 lead, but The Hall responded with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to level the contest at three
- After a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh gave VU the lead again, Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) forced extras with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame
- The same script played out in the eighth, with VU taking the lead before Noel Lent (Yaphank, N.Y.) cranked a solo shot to tie the contest at 5-5
- Down 6-5 in the bottom of the 10th, Ragen Reddick (Middlesex, N.J.) led off with a double and Walkden was intentionally walked before Fischer connected on her fourth home run of the year to put the contest away

- The Pirates tied a program record with the third five-homer game in SHU history and second this season
- In addition to Fischer's three-run shot the Pirates got solo home runs from Lent, Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.), Reddick and Walkden
