3/19/2017 5:33:00 PM | Softball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall softball team (13-9-1) concluded a successful run at the Inaugural Pirate Invitational with an 8-0 victory in five innings over Hartford (2-17) on Sunday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field. The Hall finishes the first regular season tournament hosted in South Orange with a perfect 4-0 record as it looks towards conference play beginning next weekend.
The Pirate bats racked up 11 hits in the triumph to back a complete game shutout effort from hurler Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) in the circle. Eight different players scored a run and seven notched at least one hit in the balanced offensive attack.
Turning Point
After the Pirates jumped on the board with a run in the bottom of the second, the bats came alive for six runs in the bottom of the third. Five different players notched RBI singles in the methodical frame, with Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) notching the first and Brianna Wallace (Fort Worth, Texas) capping the frame with the fifth. Another RBI base knock from Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) pushed the lead to eight in the bottom of the fourth, bringing the run-rule into play.
