GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Seton Hall softball team (3-2) dropped a pair of contests to ACC foes on Friday, falling to Virginia Tech (6-3) and Virginia (6-6) at ECU Softball Stadium. The contests were the first two for The Hall at the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina.
Game 1 Notes – Virginia Tech 13, Seton Hall 0 (Five Innings)
- The Hokies jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first, then exploded for a nine-run third that included a pair of home runs
- Aysha Richardson spun a 5.0 inning no-hitter for Virginia Tech, walking six and striking out five
- Virginia Tech held a 13-0 edge in hits and capitalized on three Seton Hall errors to score nine of their runs unearned
- Six different Pirates drew a walk in the setback
- Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 catching opposing base stealers
- The Cavaliers grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a sac fly in the top of the first, but The Hall answered to level the contest with an RBI double from Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.) in the bottom of the frame
- After Fischer retired seven in a row in the circle through the middle innings, Virginia struck in the top of the sixth by scoring on an RBI triple before a two-run home run gave the Hoos a 4-1 lead
- Virginia tacked on four more in the top of the seventh to put the contest out of reach
- The Hall was out-hit 11-6 in the setback
- Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) went 2-for-3 for her second multi-hit effort in five career games
- Fischer's RBI double was The Hall's lone extra-base hit and the senior also finished with two hits, her third multi-hit effort of the season
- A first inning walk gave Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) 61 for her career, cracking the top-10 in program history for career bases on balls
The Pirates will continue play at the ECU Pirate Invitational on Saturday morning, taking on Virginia and Coppin State beginning at 9:30 a.m.
