Pirates Drop BIG EAST Opener to St. John's

South Orange, N.J. – The Pirates dropped their BIG EAST opener on Thursday afternoon to St. John's, 8-2, at Mike Sheppard Sr. Stadium.
How it Happened
Seton Hall would be the one to strike first in this one, scoring in the bottom half of the first. Gabe Cavazzoni opened the inning with a single to left field, and later worked into scoring position on a stolen base with one out. Nick Tomasetto would lace a triple into the gap in right center, scoring Cavazzoni with the game's first run.
Pirate starter Steven Svenson had a strong start to his outing, allowing two baserunners through the first three innings. The Red Storm would get to him in the fourth on a solo home run from Adam Agresti to tie things up at 1-1. That score would remain until the sixth, when a four-run frame helped St. John's start to pull away.
The Hall would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth, as Ryan Frontera's RBI groundout followed Aiden Dill's wall-ball triple to right. The Red Storm would keep the pedal down on offense, plating a pair of runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to claim the victory.
