Cavazzoni Extends Hitting Streak in Defeat to Rider

South Orange, N.J. – Gabe Cavazzoni collected two hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 straight games, but the Pirates fell in their midweek contest to Rider on Tuesday afternoon, 3-2.

How it Happened
After a clean first inning from both sides, the Pirates put pressure on in the second. After an error and a walk put runners on the corners with one out, an errant pickoff throw to third base allowed Magnus Krieger to come home with the game's first run. The Pirate lead would sustain itself until the fourth, when a sacrifice fly by Rider's Anthony Paskell leveled things at 1-1.

Seton Hall would quickly answer in the bottom of the fourth. Krieger kept his hot hitting going with a sharply hit double into the left field corner, and advanced to third on a groundout from Frankie Scrivanic. Ryan Strnad then lofted a ball into right field for a sacrifice fly, scoring Krieger with the second Pirate run. Seton Hall would hold that lead until the seventh, when a two-run double from Nate Shuhet put the Broncs ahead for good, 3-2.
