Pirates Fall to Providence Despite DeMarco's Power Burst, 9-6

How It Happened
On a blistery day in South Orange, the Pirates found themselves on the back foot early on in this BIG EAST clash. A game-opening error by The Hall led to a four-run first frame from Providence. The proverbial snowball continued to grow when, after failing to score in the bottom half of the frame despite getting the opening two batters on base, the Friars added three more runs in the second to make it a 7-0 game.
With the deficit growing, The Hall lodged a response in the bottom of the frame, with two outs and runners on the corners. Angelina Benitez laced a single into the gap in left centerfield, scoring a pair of Pirates and making it a 7-2 game. That offensive momentum bled into the third when Sophia DeMarco led off the inning with a solo shot over the fence.2 for the show ✌️#HALLin🔵⚪️ pic.twitter.com/ujtG4AJELk

Yet, as quickly as the Pirates' momentum grew, it shifted back to the Friars just as easily in the fourth frame. Providence collected a pair of RBI singles, while The Hall countered with one of their own, making it a 9-4 game just past the midway point.See yaaaa 🫡#HALLin🔵⚪️ pic.twitter.com/vXo95MXud5

The home side was not done for the day, however. After two of the first three runners reached base, a wild pitch and an RBI single from DeMarco pulled Seton Hall within 3, 9-6. The Pirates' sixth-inning rally ended there, however, and the offense could not muster enough of a response in the seventh, ending the opening game of the weekend with a 9-6 loss to Providence.
