How It Happened
Looking to rebound from yesterday's loss, the Pirates opened up the game in auspicious fashion by getting two runners in scoring position with one out. However, yesterday's woes with runners in scoring position continued into today. Twelve pitches later, the next two batters headed back to the bench to end the Pirates' half of the inning with no runners scored.
Unfortunately for Seton Hall, Butler's offense continued to capitalize on the The Hall's offense stumbling. Over the first four innings, the Bulldogs recorded three multi-run frames, including a four-run fourth inning, to hand the Pirates an 8-0 deficit at the midpoint of today's clash.
Despite the missed opportunities, the Pirates' offense would not be held down any longer in the fifth inning. The Hall found early momentum in the frame with singles by Andrea Perez and Angelina Benitez, but Katey Brennan broke The Hall's scoreless drought with a one-out, two-run double to make it an 8-2 game. The offensive carousel kept on turning for Seton Hall as Naya Martinez, Loreale Blake and Erin Howard each drove in a run to make it an 8-5 game by the end of the inning.
Over the final two innings, the Pirates' pitching staff managed to stall out Butler's offense to keep any comeback hopes alive. However, the Pirates' scoring opportunities in the final two innings remainded stuck at sea, resulting in an 8-5 loss.
