SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In a game where the two teams combined for three home runs,, the Seton Hall softball team (9-11, 1-4) fell to the UConn Huskies (8-17, 3-2), 8-6, on Saturday at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field.

How It Happened

After claiming victory the prior day in walk-off fashion, the Pirates quickly found themselves behind on Saturday afternoon. After a three-run first inning by the Huskies, the visitors added another run in the second to put The Hall down 4-0.
As the Pirates prepared to cycle through the order in the third inning, the offense finally began to find its stride. After two errors and a walk to open the inning, the Pirates' RBI leader, Sophia DeMarco, stepped to the plate. DeMarco drove a hard ground ball through the Huskies' defense, plating two runners and cutting the deficit in half, 4-2.
Naya Martinez capped off Seton Hall's third-frame rally with a sacrifice fly, bringing home another run and making it a 4-3 game. Another sacrifice fly in the fourth, this time by Lea Kosinski, evened the game at 4-4.
That draw would not last long, however, as UConn notched a two-out, bases-clearing double in the fifth inning to retake the lead 7-4.
In search of another comeback, Kosinski would continue her hot streak with a two-out, two-run home run on a 2-2 count to pull within one run, 7-6.
Any hopes of a comeback became more difficult during the top of the seventh after a leadoff home run by the Huskies made it a two-run game. While The Hall got on base to start the bottom half of the inning, three straight foul outs led to an 8-6 loss in game two of the series.

News & Notes

With the loss, the Pirates move to 9-11 on the season and 1-4 in BIG EAST play.
Kosinski logged her first home run of the season.
- She has seven hits in her last five appearances
DeMarco reached 20 hits on the season.
Martinez reached 10 RBI on the season.
