South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball team had the bats working early but were unable to hold a late lead in a 9-6 loss to Brown on Saturday afternoon at Mike Sheppard Sr. Stadium.

How it Happened
Both sides traded blows in the early going, with Brown striking first by posting a three-spot in the second inning. The Pirates answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom half, the first coming off the bat of Ty Acker on an RBI single to center. Next, Tommy Manzo leveled the score with a two-run single to left.

The Bears answered right back, as a pair of RBI singles in the top of the third gave the visitors a 5-3 edge. However, Seton Hall once again was able to respond. With the bases loaded and no outs, Ryan Frontera hit a sacrifice fly to left to make it a one-run game. On the throw back into the infield, the ball skipped away from the third baseman, allowing the tagging Aidan Sengenberger to get up and come home with the tying run. Later in the frame, Acker collected his second run-scoring hit of the day with an RBI single to right center to give the Pirates a 6-5 lead.

That one-run lead would maintain itself for the majority of the day thanks to great Seton Hall pitching. Derek Benzinger entered on the mound to start the fourth and worked four scoreless innings while scattering just four hits. Matt Pontari worked a shutdown eighth as well as the Pirates entered the ninth with the lead. However, Brown would rally for four runs in the top of the ninth to go ahead and take the middle game of the series.
