Pirates Unable to Rally Late at Southern Illinois

How it Happened
For the fifth consecutive game, Seton Hall scored in the first inning. After Aiden Dill was hit by a pitch with one out, Nick Tomasetto would double him home on a ball hit to the gap in left center. One inning later, the Pirates would tack on a second run to double their lead. Frankie Scrivanic legged out an infield single to open the inning and would later score on an RBI single from Shea Grady to give The Hall a 2-0 edge.
In the bottom of the second, Southern Illinois would take the lead courtesy of a three-run home run. After a silent third, the Salukis tacked on another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead into the fifth.
In the middle frame, Seton Hall was able to get a run back. Gabe Cavazzoni kept his hot hitting going out of the leadoff spot with a double down the left field line. After advancing to third on a groundout, Tomasetto picked up his second RBI of the day with a grounder to short which brought home Cavazzoni. The Pirates threatened to make more noise in the inning after Southern Illinois walked the next three hitters, but Ryan Frontera hit into a fielder's choice with two outs to end the inning.
The Salukis got back to work in the bottom of the fifth, putting two more runs up on the board to hold a 6-3 edge. Seton Hall was able to get a run closer in the seventh on a Frontera single, but the Salukis answered it back in the eighth to regain a three-run lead. Tomasetto drew a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth as the Pirates attempted to rally late, but Southern Illinois was able to work around the baserunner to preserve the win.
