Pirates Tripped Up by Huskies, Fall 6-2

STORRS, CT. – Despite an early run, the Seton Hall softball team (15-12, 5-2 BIG EAST) fell UConn (15-11, 4-1 BIG EAST), 6-2, at Burrill Family Field in the second game of the season series on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
After going down 1-0 in the first inning, the Pirates equalized the contest at 1-1 when Kyra Kreuscher drove in Andrea Perez. Unfortunately, the game would not remain tied for long as a two-out UConn double would put increase the deficit to two, giving UConn a 3-1 lead.
In the third inning, the Pirates loaded the bases with two outs. The Pirates could not convert those runners into runs, however keeping the deficit at two. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the frame, the Pirates deficit continued to grow as a string of throw allowed two Huskies to score to make it a 5-1 UConn lead.
Seton Hall would get one run back in the fourth, however, after Katey Brennan scored Caroline Hobbes on a sacrifice fly to centerfield, making it a 5-2 game. The Huskies would not rest, however, as they made it a 6-2 game with a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth.
Heading into the seventh inning, the Pirates needed four runs to continue play. Brennan and Taylor Hill reached base to open the inning, but the Pirates were unable to plate either. With a strikeout to end the game, the Pirates fell to UConn 6-2.
