
Pirates Pound Jefferson in Final Season Tune-Up, 92-42

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) scored a game-high 25 points to lead a group of seven Pirates that tallied at least eight points as the Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated Jefferson, 92-42, in exhibition action on Thursday in Walsh Gym.
 
Seton Hall used a 22-4 run in the first quarter to pull away, and never looked back. The Hall shot 45.9 percent from the floor for the game and forced 32 turnovers in its final tune-up of the preseason.
 
Codio was 10-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in an impressive debut.
 
Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 12 points. Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.), Ja'Kahla Craft (Elk River, Minn.) and Cam Rust (Wakefield, R.I.) each scored nine points, while Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Messiah Hunter (Hopewell, Va.) collected eight points.
 
THE STORY:
Jefferson collected the first basket of the game, but the Pirates answered with an 11-0 run on the strength of made three-pointers by Codio, Eads and Catalon. Seton Hall never looked back as the run eventually grew to 22-4 and a layup by Rust with 2:59 left in the first quarter gave it a commanding 22-6 advantage. The Hall took a 29-7 lead into the second quarter.
 
Seton Hall forced 18 first-half turnovers and shot 43 percent from the floor to take a 43-21 lead into halftime. Codio scored 17 of her 25 points in the first half to fuel the Pirates' start.
 
Seton Hall opened the second half with a 15-2 run and a layup by Bishop extended its lead to 58-23 with 5:06 left in the third quarter. The Hall outscored Jefferson by 15 points in the third and 13 points in the fourth for the convincing victory. Craft scored all nine of her points after halftime.

- Seton Hall was 34-for-74 (45.9%) from the floor for the game, while Jefferson was 19-for-56 (33.9%). The Hall was 9-for-25 (36.0%) from three-point range, while the Rams were just 1-for-4 (25.0%).
- Codio had 25 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also had a team-best five steals.
- The Hall out-rebounded Jefferson, 41-to-36, which included a 16-to-12 edge on the offensive glass and a 18-to-8 advantage in second-chance points.
- Catalon had 12 points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists.
- Seton Hall was 15-for-19 (78.9%) from the free-throw line, while Jefferson was 3-for-6 (50.0%).
