NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) was named to the 22nd Annual Scholar-Athlete Team by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association on Wednesday. She's one of only 13 women's basketball players named nationwide.
Â
Catalon joins only Ashley Bush (2004-05) as Pirates to earn the prestigious athletic and academic distinction.
Â
A unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST selection, Catalon had a massive junior year for Seton Hall, both offensively and defensively. The guard set new single-season career highs in nearly every statistical category including points, rebounds, assists, steals and shooting percentage. Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times, the captain started every game and ranked in the conference's top-10 in points, steals and leads the BIG EAST in free-throw percentage. Catalon needs just 27 points to become the 26th player in Seton Hall history to reach 1,000 for her career. She was also named to the conference's first-ever All-Defensive Team.
Â
Off the court, Catalon has been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and has maintained an impressive 3.77 grade point average in Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Â
Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious annual awards. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games listed on the nomination form. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, individuals must have reached junior academic standing at their respective institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible).
