SOUTH ORANGE CYCLE: Zak Attains Cycle In 10-1 Win Over Xavier

South Orange, N.J. - Cole Zak (Cleveland, Ohio) achieved one of baseball's most impressive single-game feats on Sunday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium as he hit for the cycle as part of a 4-for-5 afternoon with five RBI in Seton Hall's 10-1 win over Xavier.
Zak got the two hardest hits in the cycle out of the way in his first two at-bats as he hit a triple in his first plate appearance and mashed his third home run of the season in his second at-bat. After hitting an RBI double in the seventh inning, Zak dropped a base hit into center field in the ninth inning to complete the cycle.
Cole Hansen (Skillman, N.J.) posted another strong start, allowing just three this and one run in six innings or work. Jayson Torres (East Islip, N.Y.) tossed three scoreless frames and registered three strikeouts for his first career save. Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
How It Happened
Seton Hall jumped out in front early after Hansen retired the side in order in the top of the first inning. In the home half, Cumiskey singled with one out and moved to second base on a groundout. Zak drove him home and gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead on a triple that went over the right fielder's head.
Hansen sat down the Musketeers in succession again in the second and the Pirates continued to give him run support. With two outs and Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) standing at second base, Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) hit an opposite field triple that scored a run and made it 2-0 Seton Hall. The Pirates' lead extended to 3-0 after Hack followed Luders with an RBI base hit to right field.
Hansen worked around a Seton Hall fielding error in the third, induced an inning-ending double play in the fourth and got a strikeout to end the fifth inning that kept it a 3-0 Seton Hall lead. A deep home run over the right field fence by Zak in the bottom of the fifth made it 5-0 in favor of the Pirates. Despite allowing a run in the sixth, Hansen worked out of trouble and stranded two runners in his final frame.
The Pirates continued to pour it on in the bottom of the seventh where Zak hit a double that scored Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) and another run came across on an error that put the score at 7-1. Seton Hall added on to their lead in the eighth where a Cumiskey RBI single preceded Zak's historic base hit that plated Hack and made it 9-1 Pirates. Â
