
Pirates Roll Past Lafayette, 9-2

South Orange, N.J. - Another strong effort from the Seton Hall bullpen and a six-run eighth inning led to the Pirates' fourth consecutive midweek victory as they defeated Lafayette, 9-2, at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Redshirt junior Aaron Groller (Harleysville, Pa.) struck out a career-high six batters in four perfect innings of relief work that helped keep the Pirates' in the game after falling behind 2-0. Graduate student Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and redshirt junior Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI and a home run.
THE GAME:
After a scoreless first inning, Lafayette jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run single. In the home half, Pokrovsky socked a 1-0 pitch over the center field wall for his sixth home run of the season.
Groller entered the game in the top of the third and retired six straight before the Pirates tied the score in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Oscar Murray (Brentwood, Calif.) made it a 2-2 ballgame with one swing as he lifted a pitch over the right field wall for a home run, his third of the season.
Groller dominated the Leopards in the fifth and sixth innings and junior Richie Cimpric (Bayport, N.Y.) kept them off the board in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, The Hall pulled ahead 3-2 on an RBI single off the bat of redshirt junior Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) that drove in Pokrovsky from second. After another scoreless frame from Cimpric, the flood gates opened in the bottom of the eighth plated six runs that made it 9-2.

- The Pirates have won four straight midweek games and are 9-2 in midweek games this season.
- The Seton Hall bullpen hasn't allowed an earned run in its last 27 innings dating back to the ninth inning of game two against Butler on April 22.
- Seton Hall pitching allowed four walks and surrendered just two runs on four hits.
- Wednesday marked the Pirates' seventh multi-home run game this season, their most since also tallying seven multi-home run games in 2018.
- Pokrovsky's six home runs are the most for a Pirate since Casey Dana hit seven home runs in 2021.
- Pokrovsky now has nine multi-RBI performances, the most on the team.
- Clyde matched his career high with three hits on Wednesday.
- Clyde now has 16 multi-hit games this season, the most on the team.
- Seton Hall has already surpassed last season's win total and is one win away from matching its win total from 2021

The Pirates will next hit the road for a key BIG EAST series at Xavier. Game one will be on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by game two on Saturday at 1 p.m. The series finale will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
