Game 1: Seton Hall 4, Georgetown 3
How it Happened
- Georgetown got on the board early, plating two runs in the first against Smith to claim a 2-0 lead.
- The Pirates threatened to score in both the second and third innings but were held off the scoreboard. It wasn't until the fourth inning when the Pirates were able to break through.
- Gilbert led off the fourth with a home run to right center, followed later in the inning by a game-tying single by Hannah Alexander (Wrightstown, N.J.). Next, Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) would deliver the Pirates the lead with an infield single.
- Smith would add a much needed insurance run in the fifth, as her single to center was bobbled by the centerfielder which allowed Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) to score all the way from first.
- Georgetown got a run back in the sixth, but was down to its final out with the bases empty in the seventh. After three straight Hoyas reached base with two outs, Smith was able to strike out Mae Forshey on three pitches to end the game.
- This marked the second straight game in which the winning pitcher also knocked in the game-winning run. On Friday, KELSEY CARR's home run proved to be the game-winner.
- Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) picked up her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
- This was the Pirates' seventh game so far this season that was decided by one run, and their 11th game that was decided by two runs or less.
- The Pirates outhit the Hoyas, 9-4.
How it Happened
- Both starters had strong outings, as Carr went the first three innings for the Pirates allowing just one earned run.
- The Hoya bats came alive late after entering the sixth with a 2-0 lead. Georgetown brough four runs across in the sixth, highlighted by Cameron Kondo's two-run home run which made it a 6-0 game.
- Georgetown added four more runs in the seventh to make it a 10-0 lead.
- Gilbert hit her second home run of the doubleheader to lead off the bottom of the seventh.
- Gilbert is now up to four home runs on the season after hitting two home runs on Saturday. The sophomore hit just one home run across 16 games during her freshman season.
- Wingo is batting .529 over her six-game hitting streak
- Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) has reached base in each of her last nine games.
Seton Hall continues BIG EAST play on the road next weekend when it travels to Omaha for a three-game series with Creighton.
