Game 1: Seton Hall 6, IUPUI 0
How it Happened
- After both sides were retired in order in the first, the Pirates were able to strike for three in the second inning. The first run came across after a bunt from Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.) brought home Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.)Â from third. Later in the inning, Lauren Caye (Pittsburgh, Pa.) brought home a second run on a sacrifice fly, and Reagan Rand (Erie, Pa.) scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
- In the fifth, two more runs would come home for The Hall. Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) continued her strong weekend at the plate with a two-run double which brought home Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) and Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.).
- Kreuscher was cruising in the circle, going the first 5.2 innings without allowing a baserunner. Her no-hitter and perfect game bid were broken up with two outs in the sixth on a single to left field.
- The Pirates added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, as Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) reached on a fielder's choice which brought home Jordan Tressler (Rocklin, Calif.) with Seton Hall's sixth run.
- Kreuscher faced just one batter over the minimum, with the sixth inning single being the only batter to reach base against the freshman.
- Kreuscher is the first Pirate pitcher since Sydney Babik (Gilbert, Ariz.) on Feb. 12, 2022 to throw a one-hit complete game shutout, and the first since at least 2015 to do so in a seven inning game.
- Gilbert added two more RBI to her weekend, and the sophomore drove in six total runs across her five games this weekend.
- Rand made her first career start and recorded her first career base hit.
- The shutout was the Pirates' third of the weekend, two of which came against IUPUI.
How it Happened
- Seton Hall had a chance out of the gates to score, however stranded runners on first and second after an Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) strikeout ended the inning.
- Both of the Pirates' hits came in the fourth, as back-to-back two-out singles from Wingo and Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) had the offense in business. However, Hannah Alexander (Wrightstown, N.J.) went down on strikes to halt the momentum.
- Appalachian State would score twice in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double and a fielder's choice to take a 2-0 lead. The Mountaineers added an insurance tally in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
- Prior to the runs scored in the fourth inning, Carr had a scoreless streak of 15 innings to begin the season.
- Carr struck out four to bring her team-leading total to 18 so far on the season.
