All five seniors that saw the field got in on the action on Sunday:
Head – 2.0 innings pitched, two strikeouts
Reddick – Reached base twice
Strunk – 1.0 innings pitched, one strikeout
Supercynski – 1-3 with a double and a run scored
Wallace – 2-2 with a double, a triple and two runs scored
In total, the Pirates clubbed seven doubles on the day and built an early 8-1 lead that they were able to hold on to over the final frames. Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) had three hits including her ninth home run, while Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) both had two RBIs. Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) concluded a huge weekend with a pair of doubles as the Pirates picked up the series win to remain firmly in the hunt for a BIG EAST Tournament berth.
How it Happened
- The Hall jumped ahead quickly, getting back-to-back RBI doubles from Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Tate with two away in the bottom of the first to go up 3-0
- After GU got a run back in the top of the second, Wallace tripled and scored on an RBI knock from Barracato in the bottom of the frame
- Allender pushed the lead to 5-1 with a long solo home run in the bottom of the third
- In the bottom of the fourth, RBI doubles from Wallace, Barracato and Arteaga stretched the lead to 8-1
- The Hoyas would plate runs in the fifth and seventh innings but couldn't overcome the huge Pirate lead
- The Pirates out-hit the Hoyas 13-9, while GU had the game's lone error
- Allender, Arteaga, Barracato and Wallace all had multi-hit efforts for the Pirates
- The seven doubles hit on Sunday by the Pirates tie a program single-game record
- Barracato extended her program single-season record with her 20th double
- With a 2-for-3 day, Arteaga lifted her season average to .404
- She is seeking to became the second Pirate ever to hit .400 or better in a season
- With two doubles on Sunday she has 17 this season, second-most in a season in SHU history behind only Barracato's record set this year
- Arteaga also moved into seventh in program history with 102 career RBIs and fifth all-time with 36 career doubles
- Allender's home run was her team-high ninth of the season and sixth during league play, most in the BIG EAST
- The home run surge for Allender comes after she hit only one home run a season ago
- Strunk made her 108th career appearance (fifth in SHU history), tossed her 412th inning (seventh) and recorded her 220th strikeout (ninth)
- The Hall is now 19-11 all-time against Georgetown and has won four of its last five series against the Hoyas
The Pirates will look to win another series next weekend when they head to Omaha for a three-game set at Creighton on May 4-5.
