
The Hall Snags Doubleheader Split at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Seton Hall softball team (18-21, 5-7 BIG EAST) earned a doubleheader split at Providence (25-17, 6-7 BIG EAST) on an overcast Thursday afternoon at Glay Field. After dropping a 2-0 decision in a game one pitcher's duel, The Pirates bounced back with a 4-3 comeback win in game two. The split sets up a rubber game on Saturday with massive league standings implications.

The Pirates and Friars are scheduled to conclude their series with a single game on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m.
Game 1 – Providence 2, Seton Hall 0
How it Happened
- Neither side was able to produce a run until the bottom of the fourth, when Providence took a 1-0 lead by way of an RBI single
- The Friars doubled their lead with another RBI single in the sixth to go up 2-0
- The Hall threatened in the top of the seventh, putting the potential tying runs on base with a walk and a Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) single up the middle
- After a sac bunt put both runners in scoring position, PC got a strikeout and grounder back to the pitcher to escape the jam and seal the win
- Both sides had four hits on the day, while PC committed the only error
- Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) took a tough-luck loss with 6.0 solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts
- Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) had The Hall's lone extra base hit with a fifth inning double
- Marisa Pla (San Clemente, Calif.) stole a base in the second inning and is now a team-best 7-for-7 swiping bags this season

How it Happened
- The Pirates wasted no time taking an early lead, opening the game with back-to-back doubles from Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) to take a 1-0 lead
- Later in the first, Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring Arteaga home from third and give the Pirates a 2-0 advantage
- PC took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second to go up 3-2
- In the top of the sixth SHU re-took the lead, with Barracato coming up with a clutch two-out, two-run double to put the Pirates back ahead by a run
- Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) took over in the final two innings, closing out her complete game effort with a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win
- The Hall finished with a 10-4 edge in hits and committed the game' lone error
- Barracato finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored
- Arteaga, Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) and Pandolfo each had two hits for the Pirates
- Strunk tossed a complete game four-hitter, striking out six and walking two
- Arteaga and Barracato both now have 15 doubles this season, tied with former teammate Alexis Walkden (2017) for third-most in a single-season in SHU history
- During 12 games in league play, Barracato is batting .487 with 13 RBIs
- The Hall is now 32-30 all-time against Providence, with 13 of the last 16 meetings now decided by two runs or fewer
The Pirates and Friars are scheduled to conclude their series with a single game on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m.
