Both offenses were held relatively quiet in the contest, combining for only 12 hits, but St. John's was able to push a run across in the first and tack on with a two-run home run in the fourth. Five different Pirates had one hit in the setback.
How it Happened
- St. John's took an early lead with a run in the top of the first, scoring on an RBI infield single that split the pitcher and shortstop
- The Hall threatened in the bottom of the third when back-to-back walks put two on with two away, but SJU hurler Madison Morris was able to induce a pop-up and end the threat
- The Red Storm then stretched its lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the fourth
- The Hall would come up with two-out hits in each of their final three tips at bat, but were unable to bring the tying run to the plate at any point in the fifth inning or beyond
- The Pirates were out-hit 7-5 on the day, while each side committed one error
- Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) notched her 100th strikeout of the season in the second inning, marking the 20th 100-K season in school history
- Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) clubbed her league-leading 14th double in the fifth inning, now tied for fourth-most in a single-season in SHU history
- The Arteaga two-bagger was Seton Hall's lone extra base hit on the day
- Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) fired 3.0 scoreless innings of relief – in three appearances against St. John's, the senior did not allow an earned run over 7.0 innings of work
- As a team, The Hall hit .364 (4-11) with two outs but was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday with a road midweek contest at Stony Brook, beginning at 4 p.m.
