Pirates Fall to Harvard Sunday Afternoon
9/17/2017 4:16:00 PM | Women's Soccer
South Orange, N.J. – Despite out-shooting Harvard in the second half, the Seton Hall women's soccer team was unable to overcome a pair of goals against within four minutes of each other in the opening frame, and fell 3-0 to the visiting Crimson at Owen T. Carroll Field Sunday afternoon in the team's non-conference finale.
The Pirates (0-6-2) had a handful of opportunities throughout the match, with perhaps the best chance coming off the head of junior Julia Stirpe (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), who had an opening after an excellent cross into the box, but she could not get enough on it to put it past the keeper.
Junior Sophia Duffy (Freehold, N.J.) also had an excellent look when she drilled a free kick from 30 yards out that was about to sneak under the crossbar, but was deflected out of play by the Harvard (6-3-0) goal keeper.
Turning Point
Harvard got on the board in the 33rd minute after being previously being limited to just two shots. The Crimson struck again just three minutes later when Leah Mohammadi curved a corner kick into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Stirpe's header opportunity came in the 39th minute and would have gotten The Hall right back in the match, but the Pirates could not battle back from the two quick strikes in the first half.
Goals
32:55 – Harvard – Linda Liedel (1) Finished a 2-on-1 break from Murphy Agnew
36:12 – Harvard – Leah Mohammadi (4) Hooked in straight off corner kick from left
59:09 – Harvard – Zayne Matulis (1) Blasted into goal off long free kick entry from Mohammadi
