SHU Hosts St. John's For Final Weekend, Senior Day

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall softball teams (22-22-1, 7-11 BIG EAST) closes out the regular season with a three-game conference series against rival St. John's (28-15, 14-4 BIG EAST) this weekend at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field. The series schedule has been adjusted: the Pirates and Red Storm will now play a single game at 11 a.m. on Saturday before a doubleheader on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Hall currently sits 1.5 games out of the top-four in the conference, needing a strong weekend and some help across the league to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. The Pirates will square off with a St. John's squad that has led the league throughout the season but is coming off a series loss to Villanova last weekend.
Prior to Sunday's contest, the Pirates will honor their six-member senior class. The Pirate seniors are: Joelle Arrante (Elkton, Md.), Chelsea Caynon (Litchfield, N.H.), Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.), Noel Lent (Yaphank, N.Y.), Jennifer Sanislo (Whippany, N.J.) and Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.).

In order to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament in Rosemont, Ill. next weekend the Pirates must finish in the top-four of the final league standings.

- Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) continues to pace the Seton Hall offense in the midst of yet another sterling campaign, slashing .363/.500/.756 with 12 home runs, 15 doubles and 37 RBIs
- Right behind Walkden is Fischer, who is batting .339 and has clubbed 11 home runs while drawing a program single-season record 41 walks for a .506 on-base percentage
- The Pirates lead the BIG EAST with 65 stolen bases, topped by 15 from Suto
- Lent (.322) and Suto (.302) are among six Pirate regulars with averages over .300 this season
- In the circle, Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) has tossed a team-high 92.1 innings and holds a 3.11 ERA with a 69:29 strikeout-to-walk ratio during her freshman campaign
- St. John's visits South Orange with a 28-15 record and a league-best 14-4 mark in conference
- The Red Storm lead the league with a .313 batting average and 5.7 runs per game
- Kaitlin Matter is hitting .356 to lead STJ, followed closely by Monique Landini at .355
- Gretchen Bowie is the Red Storm's top power threat with team-highs of seven home runs, 11 doubles and 41 RBIs while Savannah Warren has six home runs and 36 driven in
- In the circle, four hurlers have tossed at least 60 innings and have combined for a 3.22 ERA
