Chukuka Nets First Goal In Shutout Win At Cornell
9/15/2016 9:42:00 PM | Women's Soccer
ITHACA, N.Y. – In her 53rd career game, senior defender Cathy Chukuka (Marlboro, N.J.) scored her first career goal to power the Seton Hall women's soccer team (4-3-0) to a 1-0 victory at Cornell (2-4-0) on Thursday night. Chukuka's goal came in the 26th minute and backed a six-save shutout from Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario).
The victory for the Pirates marked their second-straight overall and third-consecutive victory on the road. It was also the second shutout this season for The Hall, coming despite facing 19 shots from an aggressive Big Red attack.
Turning Point
Pirate pressure in the 26th minute led to a corner kick, swung in by senior captain Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.). The service went into the center of the box, where Chukuka was able to leap above the pack and get a header on target that beat CU keeper Kelsey Tierney. The goal would stand up over the final 64 minutes, with Chukuka and MacLean anchoring a Pirate defense that kept Cornell off the board.
