Cortes, MacLean Help Pirates Draw Columbia
9/18/2016 4:46:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's soccer team (4-3-1) got a goal from Sarah Cortes (Paramus, N.J.) and a career-high 14 saves from Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) to secure a 1-1 draw with Columbia (2-4-2) on Sunday afternoon. The contest at Owen T. Carroll Field marked the non-conference finale for the Pirates.
Cortes tallied in the 14th minute, giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead they would take into the half. The Lions found an equalizer in the 54th minute from Natalie Neshat before the two sides played out the remainder of regulation knotted at 1-1.
Turning Point
After a scoreless first overtime period that saw MacLean make two saves, Columbia nearly found a winner in the 104th minute during the second overtime. A foul on The Hall led to a free kick chance for Columbia just at the edge of the penalty area. Two quick touch-passes led to a shot on target from top scorer Emma Anderson, but MacLean was there to turn aside the blast for her 14th save and keep the match tied.
Goals
14th – SHU – Sarah Cortes (1) made long run and drew keeper out, low shot from right side to left corner
54th – CU – Neshat (1) took back-heel pass from Madeline Linde and finished from top of box
