INDIANAPOLIS – A goal from senior Sarah Cortes (Paramus, N.J.) in the 27th minute was not enough as the Seton Hall women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

Although Cortes evened up the score at a goal apiece heading into the half, Butler's Shannon McDevitt tallied what turned out to be the game-winner in the 62nd minute.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the 18th minute as Jamison Midgley delivered from 10 yards out after the Pirates were unable to clear a ball in their defending third.
Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Maclean compiled nine saves on the match, raising her total to 71 on the season.

The defeat was the third one-goal loss in BIG EAST play that the Pirates have suffered.

Turning Point
After both teams had their moments early in the second half, the Bulldogs created a corner kick opportunity with 28 minutes to play in the fixture. Butler senior Serina Kashimoto struck a liner into the middle of the box, and McDevitt flew in with a header into the upper 90. It was McDevitt's first goal of the year.

18^th – BUT – Ball stayed in play near the left corner, deflected back into the left side of the box, Midgley scores from 10 yards out.
27^th – SHU – Landes passes to Cortes, who sends a high-arching shot from 20 yards out on the right side.
62^nd – BUT – Kashimoto's corner lands at the head of McDevitt, who sends in a shot to the top right corner of the net.

Inside the Numbers

While both teams started each half with their own spurts, Butler was more consistent in the attack, outshooting Seton Hall 18-7.
The Bulldogs created 10 corner kicks to just one for The Hall.
Seton Hall captain Sarah Fiorino (Glen Rock, N.J.) led the Pirates with two shots.
The goal was the fifth of Cortes' career and the second of her senior season.
Sophomore Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) made nine saves in defeat.
