SECAUCAS, N.J. – Seton Hall senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) was selected in the 10th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.  Prosinski was the 301st selection overall.   One of the greatest pitchers in Seton Hall history, Prosinski made a school record 57 career starts with the Pirates over four seasons.  A two-time BIG EAST First Team selection, no pitcher in Seton Hall history has thrown more innings or struck out more batters and only one pitcher has won more games.   A three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, he was named to the 2010 NJCBA All-Rookie Team as a freshman after going 3-3 with a 4.04 ERA.  In 2011 however, Prosinski blossomed into one of the most dominant pitchers in the BIG EAST.  In 15 starts, he went 7-4 and led the conference with a miniscule 1.91 ERA.  Prosinski, along with fellow starter Joe DiRocco, spearheaded the best pitching staff in the BIG EAST, which lifted Seton Hall to its first conference championship since 2001.  Saving his best performance for the highest stage, Prosinski fired a complete-game shutout in Seton Hall’s 4-0 victory over Arizona in the first round of the NCAA’s College Station Regional.   In 2012, now the Pirates’ undisputed ace, Prosinski was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and All-NJCBA pick.  He was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll four times and earned NJCBA Pitcher of the Week recognition on April 16.  The right-hander finished the season tied for the BIG EAST lead with nine wins and was eighth with 73 strikeouts against just 19 walks.  Prosinski went 9-3 in 15 starts, while maintaining a 3.52 ERA.  On March 16 and March 23, he pitched back-to-back complete-game shutouts against Fordham and Rutgers respectively.  Seton Hall’s Male Junior Athlete of the Year, Prosinski won both of his starts, while surrendering a total of two runs, against the BIG EAST regular season co-champions, St. John’s and Louisville.   Prior to the start of his historic senior campaign, Prosinski was named 2013 BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year and the 6-foot-3 right-hander didn’t disappoint.  Appointed to the All-BIG EAST First Team for a second straight year, he was named NJCBA Pitcher of the Year and Seton Hall’s Senior Male Athlete of the Year.  Ranking amongst the BIG EAST leaders in all major pitching statistical categories, Prosinski was named to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll four times and earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week distinction following his complete-game, shutout of Villanova on April 29.  In that game, he struck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed just one walk.  On April 12 at #24 Houston, Prosinski took a come-backer off his jaw in the third inning, but remained in the game, and actually pitched better afterwards.  Prosinski pitched eight innings with just one earned run in a Seton Hall victory.  During a four-start stretch in April, he gave up just four earned runs in 35 innings, with four wins and three complete games.    Prosinski was the second Pirate selected by the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Friday.  Teammate Brian Gilbert (Toms River, N.J.) was selected in the seventh round (200th overall) by the Minnesota Twins.  On Saturday, two more Pirates were selected.  Junior Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) was chosen in the 14th round by Minnesota, and senior Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) was drafted in the 18th round by the Chicago Cubs.  The four Seton Hall selections are the most in a single draft since six were picked in 1997.
