WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Seton Hall baseball’s Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) was named to the 2013 Rawlings/ABCA All-East Region First Team on Thursday evening. Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named to the Second Team. In 2013, Papaccio had one of the finest offensive seasons in Seton Hall history. Unanimously named a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association’s (NJCBA) Player of the Year, he finished ranked third in the BIG EAST with a .365 batting average and led the conference in doubles. Further showing his prowess for the two-base hit, Papaccio set Seton Hall’s career record with 56 doubles and tied the single-season Pirate record with 24. Batting primarily in the cleanup position in the Seton Hall lineup, Papaccio led the Pirates in seven offensive categories, including batting average, slugging percentage and RBIs. Named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Third Team by Collegiate Baseball, he was drafted in the 18th round by the Chicago Cubs on June 8. One of the top leadoff men in Seton Hall baseball history, Granite was named First Team All-BIG EAST and All-NJCBA while starting all 56 games for the Pirates in centerfield in 2013. Twice named to the BIG EAST’s Weekly Honor Roll, he led Seton Hall with career-highs of 35 stolen bases and 59 runs scored, both registering second-most in the conference. On April 15, Granite was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for batting .444 with five RBIs and six stolen bases in four games vs. Wagner and #24 Houston. The speedy leadoff hitter batted a career-high .304 and was named MVP of the Strike Out Cancer Tournament. On June 8, Granite was drafted in the 14th round by the Minnesota Twins.
