SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2-for-4, including his team-leading fourth home run of the season as the Seton Hall baseball team downed Saint Peter’s, 10-1, on Wednesday. After a 0-9 start, the Pirates have now won seven of their last eight games, including three straight. Sophomore Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) became the fifth straight Seton Hall starter to not allow an earned run. Elia pitched five strong scoreless innings, scattering just six hits, striking out three and not walking a batter. With the victory, he improves to 1-2 on the season. Pirate starters have now pitched 26.2 innings straight without giving up an earned run. Seton Hall (7-10) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled to lead off the inning and promptly stole second. Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) grounded out to short, but Granite was running on the play and came around to score his team-leading 19th run of the season. The Pirates tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI single by Ryan Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y.), which scored Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.) who led off the inning with a double. Leading 2-0, Seton Hall blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth. After Annunziata’s leadoff solo home run, Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) reached on an error with one out. He was moved to second when Sullivan was hit by a pitch, and third on Derek Jenkins (Allenhurst, N.J.) sacrifice bunt. After Genovese was forced out at home for the second out of the inning, Sullivan scored on a wild pitch to give Seton Hall a 4-0 advantage. Selden then delivered a two-RBI double to right centerfield to give the Pirates a commanding 6-0 lead. Annunziata’s bases loaded two-RBI double in the seventh extended the Pirate lead to 8-0. The first baseman finished the day with three RBIs. Granite had another strong day at the plate and on the base paths. The centerfielder went 2-for-4 with a walk, four runs scored and two more steals. Granite is now batting .358 with a team-best 12 steals. Seton Hall will return to the diamond on Friday, March 22 when they open the BIG EAST portion of their schedule with the first of a three-game series at Notre Dame. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
