SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Though the hustle and bustle characteristic of a metropolitan university typically subsides during the holidays, SHU remains a hub of activity as work continues on a number of advancements that will help usher in a new era in Seton Hall athletics.
Visitors to the University’s South Orange campus are greeted by discernible signs of such developments as construction related to the multi-million dollar Fitness Center project marches on. At this point in construction, excavation is underway, opening the door for the foundation of the planned extension to be laid.
Such work will necessitate temporary electrical shutdowns which are scheduled to coincide with the holiday break, so as to minimize the inconvenience to the Seton Hall community.
When completed, the new two-tiered facility will offer greatly enhanced fitness and exercise options for SHU students, faculty, staff and recreation center members alike. The modernized facility will be lined with top-flight equipment and will allow for natural lighting and provide a view onto campus via a visually-stunning rounded glass façade.
On the first floor of the building, the new Varsity Training Room has progressed beyond the preliminary stages and is beginning to take shape. A state-of-the-art on-site medical facility devoted solely to the care of Seton Hall’s intercollegiate student-athletes, the expanded space will boast features such as three Hydro Worx tubs along with new treatment areas and taping tables. Plans also call for dedicated office spaces for the Seton Hall athletic trainers and physicians, increasing accessibility of care.
Framing of those offices is in progress (see photo album), while digging for the installation of the tubs is slated to begin in early January 2013.
Over at Owen T. Carroll Field, work remains on schedule for a new multi-purpose LED scoreboard to be added in the coming months. The Seton Hall-branded scoreboard unit is currently under construction and the university is in the latter stages of obtaining the permits needed to put in the concrete and posts for the completed product to be mounted on.
The new scoreboard will be equipped with cutting edge graphic and video capabilities and will be wired to supplement the enhanced coverage offered on the Pirate Sports Network.
