Pete Cinella joined the Seton Hall women's basketball team prior to the 2019-20 season as the Director of Player Development.
In his role as the Director of Player Development, Cinella assists the coaching staff with game planning and scouting while also serving as a key resource for student-athletes off the court. Â
Cinella comes to Seton Hall after a 12-year stint as the head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson. With the Knights, he reached the Northeast Conference Tournament nine times and saw his charges earn 17 All-NEC honors and five First Team certificates. During his time at FDU, he crossed the 400-win career milestone during the 2017-18 season. Also in the ’17-18 campaign, Cinella led the Knights to their winningest campaign in 25 years.
Cinella mentored six 1,000-point scorers at FDU including Erika Livermore, a three-time First Team All-NEC selection and one of two players in school history with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. He also saw Mariyah Laury, a two-time All-NEC First Team pick, become the second-leading scorer in school history and set the program record with 42 points in a game.
Prior to his time in Teaneck, Cinella was one of the most successful coaches in Division II while at the helm of American International College from 1994-2006. At AIC he compiled a record of 291-130 to become the Yellow Jackets’ all-time winningest coach. Cinella coached six D2 All-Americans at AIC and saw his teams finish in the top-25 in five of his last six seasons. He was named the 2002 Northeast 10 and Northeast Regional Coach of the Year. He reached the national title game in 2006 and an Elite Eight in 2002.
A 1990 graduate of Western New England College, Cinella scored over 1,000 career points as a four-year starter for WNEC. He was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
