Pirates Suffer First Defeat of Season at NJIT, 3-1

Newark, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 decision to NJIT in Newark.
How it Happened
With both sides jockeying for momentum early in the contest, it was the Pirates who would generate the first chance of the game. In the 22nd minute, Nina Davis was taken down in the far corner of the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity for the visitors. Danni Hennessy stepped up to take the PK, but the shot was snuffed out by NJIT goalkeeper Enya Carthy to keep things scoreless.
The Highlanders struck first just before halftime, scoring in the 39th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. NJIT then would tack on insurance goals in the 68th and 76th minute to charge ahead.
The Pirates would get on the board in the 77th minute thanks to another penalty kick opportunity. After Adria Kitzinger's initial penalty shot was saved, she was able to charge in and put home the rebound for her first goal of the season.
