Kleinsmith Stops Six in Scoreless Draw at Wagner

Staten Island, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Kate Kleinsmith made her collegiate debut on Thursday night, recording six saves as the Pirates played Wagner to a scoreless draw on Staten Island.
How it Happened
The Pirate defense was strong in the first half, with the freshman Kleinsmith being up to the task on all three chances for the Seahawks. The Pirates' best chance came in the 31st minute, as a shot from Olivia Beauvois from outside the penalty area was stopped by Wagner netminder Abigail Marcello.
Wagner generated three more shots in the second half, the first two of which were the most threatening. In the 54th minute, a blistering shot from the right side of the penalty area was stopped by Kleinsmith. In the 68th minute, the freshman read the play well and came off her line to catch a cross in a dangerous scoring area. Kleinsmith and the other Pirate defenders stood strong down the stretch to thwart any threatening scoring chances from the home side.
