Â
LAST TIME AGAINST DE PAUL
Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had 20 kills, and both Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) and Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had double-doubles, but DePaul rallied to win the two-hour, 52-minute marathon, 3-2 (25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 13-15), on Oct. 11.
Â
In a season already besieged by injury, the Pirates suffered another key wound. With Seton Hall up 2-0 in the match, but trailing 10-6 in the third set, junior Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) suffered an injury and was lost for the game. Although The Hall seemed briefly inspired by the loss of a teammate with an 8-1 run, DePaul regrouped and took sets three and four. In the fifth, the Pirates led 12-6, but ran out of gas late as the Blue Demons rallied for a 15-13 victory.
Â
Reich reached 20 kills for the second time this season to lead the offense. Fuller finished with a team-high 24 assists to go with a career-best 11 digs. Nelson picked up her first career double-double with a team-high 21 digs and 10 assists. Loiselle was having a tremendous match before having to leave early in the third set. She finished with 11 kills, only one attack error, and a .500 attack percentage.
Â
SCOUTING DE PAUL
DePaul enters the weekend with a 12-11 record overall and a 5-7 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. Since defeating The Hall on Oct. 11 in five sets, the Blue Demons have lost five of the last six matches. Their lone victory came in four sets at Villanova on Oct. 24. Most recently, DePaul lost at home to Marquette in four sets on Oct. 25 and was swept at Creighton on Halloween.
Â
DePaul currently ranks second in the BIG EAST with 14.56 digs per set, and libero Eva Hurrie ranks second among all individuals with 4.49 digs per set.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST MARQUETTE
Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) collected a double-double, but the Pirates couldn't overcome a slow start in a 3-1 (13-25, 16-25, 25-23, 20-25) loss to Marquette on Oct. 10 in Walsh Gym.
Â
After scoring a combined 29 points in the first two sets, the Pirates showed significant resilience in outlasting Marquette for a 25-23 set three victory. The Hall was also within one point, 21-20, late in set four before the Golden Eagles took control.
Â
Reich had a double-double with a team-best 16 kills to go with 11 digs. Junior Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) had nine kills, only one attack error, a .296 attack percentage and three blocks. Freshman Rowan Carr (Lakeville, Minn.) had another strong effort with eight kills, six digs and two blocks.
Â
SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Marquette is having a down season by their standards and enters the weekend with a 13-9 overall record and a 7-5 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. Since last seeing the Pirates, the Golden Eagles have gone just 3-4, losing to Xavier, Georgetown, Villanova, and most recently, Creighton. Last weekend, they lost the Bluejays in five sets and defeated DePaul in four sets.
Â
With four matches still to play, Marquette's five BIG EAST losses are already their most since the 2016 season.
