
Adler, Pirates Drop Match at DePaul

CHICAGO – Sophomore Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) had a team-high 16 assists and six digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at DePaul, 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 17-25), on Friday.

The opening set was the closest of the match featuring 12 ties and five lead changes, but The Hall fell, 25-21, and couldn't recover thereafter.Â

Freshman Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) had a team-high six kills to go with three digs and two blocks. Junior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) collected a team-high 13 digs to go with four assists.

Trailing 7-5 early in set one, The Hall scored three straight, and a kill by Safian gave it an 8-7 lead. Down 15-14, DePaul scored three straight to grab a 17-15 advantage and never trailed again. From there, Seton Hall twice cut its deficit to just one, but DePaul went on to win the opener, 25-21. The Hall had only a .089 attack percentage in the first set.

Down 2-1, DePaul went on a 10-2 run to grab a commanding 11-4 lead and force a Seton Hall time out. An ace by Hanna Labanowska (Olszewnica Stara, Poland) cut The Hall's deficit to 13-7, but the Blue Demons continued to methodically increase the lead and a 7-1 run gave them a 23-12 advantage. A kill by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) staved off one set point, but DePaul ultimately won, 25-15.

An early kill by Adler gave The Hall a 3-1 lead, but DePaul responded with a 6-1 run to grab a 7-4 advantage. The Pirates cut their deficit to 14-9, but the Blue Demons answered with a 6-1 spurt to extend their lead to 20-10. The Hall scored three in a row, and a kill by Alex Rasmussen (Lincoln, Neb.) made it a 20-13 set, but DePaul recovered and went on to claim a 25-17 third-set victory.
