2023-24 Meeting:
Providence 51, Seton Hall 46 (F) – December 30, 2023 (Walsh Gymnasium)
Â
AGAINST PROVIDENCE
Seton Hall and Providence will once again renew their long BIG EAST rivalry when they face off on Wednesday. The Hall owns a 45-31 all-time series lead, but had its eight-game win streak in the series snapped earlier this season with a 51-46 loss to the Friars in Walsh Gym. The Pirates have won their last four games at Alumni Hall.
Â

Graduate student Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) had a team-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team shot just 23.4 percent from the field and fell to Providence, 51-46, on Dec. 30.

The Hall's defense proved up to the challenge as it forced 23 turnovers and held the Friars to just 51 points, but the Pirates were just 3-for-27 from three-point range for the game and shot only 23.4 percent overall, their lowest since shooting just 18.6 percent in a win over Savannah State on Nov. 29, 2013. The Pirates took a 40-39 lead into the fourth quarter, but were just 2-for-16 from the field in the final 10 minutes, while Providence was 8-for-10.

Â
The Friars enter Wednesday's contest with a 12-17 record overall and a 6-10 mark in BIG EAST play. After a strong start, Providence has struggled lately, dropping six of their last seven contests. Their only victory during that span came against winless Xavier. Most recently, the Friars fell at St. John's, 60-42, on Saturday. Olivia Olsen continues to lead the team with 14.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. She had 10 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks against the Pirates in December.
