
Pirates Take Out Providence with Team-Wide Effort, 77-52

Cooks and Park-Lane combine for 50 points as the Pirates pick up their 15th victory of the year.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Graduate student Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) matched a season-high with 29 points, while Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) added 21 more as the Seton Hall women's basketball team upended Providence 77-52, in Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday.

Leading by only four at halftime, the Pirates outscored Providence, 24-to-8, in a monster third quarter to pull away. The Hall has now won back-to-back games after dropping four straight.

Cooks had 29 points on an efficient 12-for-20 shooting from the floor. Park-Lane had 21 points on the strength of six made three-pointers. She also had a game-best eight assists to go with three rebounds.

Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) turned in her second straight marquee performance with 17 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed five rebound and blocked a pair of shots.

THE STORY:
After a mostly even first quarter, Seton Hall took control in the second. Trailing 19-18, The Hall went on a 9-0 run, and a turnaround jumper by Cooks gave it a 27-19 lead with 6:42 to go before halftime. Providence went on a late run, but the Pirates took a 36-32 lead into halftime.Â

Out of the break, the Pirates opened the third quarter with a 7-0 burst, capped by a wide-open three-pointer from Park-Lane, which gave them a 43-32 lead and forced a Providence timeout. Leading 48-37, The Hall closed out the half with a 12-3 run and Cooks' buzzer-beater sent The Hall into the fourth up, 60-40. The Pirates out-scored the Friars, 24-to-8, in the game-changing third stanza.

The Friars cut Seton Hall's lead to 16 points with 7:51 left in the contest, but they couldn't get closer.

- The Hall out-rebounded Providence, 35-to-32, but the Friars had a 17-to-11 edge on the offensive glass and a 13-to-12 advantage in second-chance points.
- Park-Lane finished with 21 points on the strength of 6-for-12 shooting from three-point range. She also had a game-high eight assists to go with three rebounds and a steal.
- Seton Hall was a perfect 6-for-6 (100.0%) from the free-throw line, while Providence was 3-for-7 (42.9%).Â
- Baines had 17 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the floor to go with five rebounds and two blocks.
- Seton Hall forced 17 turnovers, while Providence forced 14. The Pirates had a 18-to-15 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
- Senior Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) had a team-high 12 rebounds to go with three steals and two blocks.
- Junior Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) had another fantastic game, tying her career-high with seven assists and only two turnovers. She also had a team-best four steals and three rebounds in a career-high 33 minutes.
- Seton Hall improves to 15-8 overall and 8-5 in the BIG EAST, while Providence falls to 13-12 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
- The Hall is now 45-30 all-time against the Friars and has won eight straight games in the series.
- With 21 points tonight, Park-Lane moved past Pirates legend Ozelina Gorham into fourth place on Seton Hall's career scoring list. She now has 1,676 career points.
- Providence is the 10th opponent Seton Hall has held to 60 or fewer points this season. The Pirates have won all 10 games.Â
- With 29 points tonight, Cooks surpassed the 1,600-points mark for her career.
- With six made three-pointers today, Park-Lane moved past former Pirates Ebonie Williams and Jodi Brooks into third place on Seton Hall's career list with 161.
