
Sidney Cooks Drops 27 Points in Creighton Setback

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Graduate student Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) had a game-high 27 points and senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) tallied a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to Creighton, 77-64, on Tuesday in Walsh Gymnasium.

Creighton used a 10-0 run late in the second quarter to take the lead and never trailed again. The Bluejays made nine of their first 13 shots from three-point range to pull away from the Pirates.

Cooks scored 27 points on the strength of 5-for-7 shooting from three-point range. Park-Lane had 14 points and a game-high 10 assists with only one turnover. Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) had another stellar game in her third consecutive start. She tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

THE STORY:
Creighton got off to a blistering start, connecting on their first six field goal attempts, including a trio of three-point attempts in route to a 17-6 lead with 5:13 left in the first quarter. The Hall responded by closing out the quarter with a 13-4 run, ending the frame down by only two, 21-19.

The Hall opened the second quarter with made three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Cooks to give it a 25-21 lead with 8:18 to go before the break. Two minutes later, Park-Lane went coast-to-coast for a layup to give the Pirates a 29-27 lead, but then they went scoreless for the next 4:25, which allowed Creighton to go on a 10-0 run and grab a 37-29 lead.

Creighton took a 43-35 lead into halftime after going 7-for-11 from three-point range in the first half. Coming into the game, the Bluejays led the BIG EAST with 9.1 made three-pointers per game.

A jumper by Park-Lane cut The Hall's deficit to 45-39, but Creighton answered with an 14-2 run to grab a commanding 59-41 lead with 4:53 left in the third quarter. Seton Hall went without a made field goal for 7:57 in the quarter until Cooks hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to send The Hall into the fourth down, 61-46.Â

The Hall mounted a late charge in the fourth, using an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to 70-60 with 2:40 left to play, but Creighton responded with their 11th made three-pointer of the night to snuff the comeback attempt.
