Seton Hall falls at No. 15 Villanova, 99-65, as Maddy Siegrist scores a BIG EAST record 50 points.

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team got 20-point games from both Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) and Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.), but fell at No. 15 Villanova, 99-65, on Saturday.

The Pirates had a hard time finding an answer for the nation's leading scorer, Villanova's Maddy Siegrist. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year set a new BIG EAST single-game record with 50 points, including eight points in a game-changing 19-3 Villanova run late in the second quarter.

Cooks finished with a team-high 21 points on the strength of 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range. Park-Lane had 20 points to go with six assists, five rebounds, two steals and only one turnover.

THE STORY:
Seton Hall showed great energy early and trailed by only one after the first quarter, 18-17, despite being out shot by a wide margin. The Hall was 6-for-17 (.353) while Villanova was 7-for-13 (.538) in the first 10 minutes.

A turnaround jumper by Cooks tied the score at 25, but Villanova responded with a 9-0 run to grab a 34-25 lead with 2:51 to go before halftime. Aided by some questionable technical foul free-throws, the Wildcats closed the first half with a 19-3 run to take a commanding 44-28 lead into the break. The Pirates actually out-rebounded Villanova in the first half and took more shots, but Siegrist caught fire late and the Wildcats pulled away.

Villanova opened the third quarter with the first 10 points to extend their advantage to 54-28 with 6:43 left. Down 65-38, The Hall went on a 9-0 run to close the third quarter, capped by a made floater by Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) at the buzzer.

The Pirates cut their deficit to as few as 17 points in the fourth, but couldn't get closer.

THE NUMBERS:

Seton Hall was 22-for-55 (40.0%) from the floor for the game, while Villanova was 38-for-59 (64.4%). The Hall was 6-for-17 (35.3%) from three-point range, while the Wildcats were 8-for-19 (42.1%).
Cooks had a team-high 21 points on the strength of 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range.
Villanova out-rebounded The Hall, 36-to-23, while the Pirates had a slim 6-to-4 edge on the offensive glass.
Park-Lane had 20 points to go with six assists, five rebounds, two steals and only one turnover.
Seton Hall was 15-for-22 (68.2%) from the free-throw line, while Villanova was 15-for-17 (88.2%).
Jala Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa.) had nine points and two rebounds off the bench for The Hall.
Both teams only had 11 turnovers, but Villanova had a massive 22-to-11 advantage in points-off-turnovers.

THE NOTES:

Seton Hall drops to 15-10 overall and 8-7 in the BIG EAST, while Villanova improves to 22-4 overall and 13-2 in conference play.
The Hall is now 26-48 all-time against the Wildcats.
Tonight was Cook's third straight 20-point game, her fifth of the season and the 13^th of her career.
Tonight was Park-Lane's 11^th 20-point game of the season and the 35^th of her career.
With 20 points tonight, Park-Lane surpassed the 1,700-points milestone for her career.
