Stockton, Calif. – Junior Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) picked up the win after five solid innings of relief as the Pirates took their fifth and final game of the Libby Matson Tournament with a 4-3 victory over Pacific on Sunday. Freshman Lauren Caye (Pittsburgh, Pa. ) led the Pirates with two hits including the game-winning single in the seventh. The Pirates improved to 7-7 on the season after a 2-3 weekend on the West Coast.

The Pirates will return home as they open conference play with a three-game series against Providence starting on Friday.

How it Happened
- The host-school, Pacific would grab the early lead with two runs in the first after bringing eight batters to the plate.
- The Pirates would respond with two runs of their own in the next half-inning. With runners on second and third, Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) brought home one of a ground ball before the next batter, Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.), did the same to knot tings at two.
- In the third, Caye doubled to right center, Hannah Alexander (Wrightstown, N.J.) singled and Smith singled to open the inning and load the bases for the Pirates. Freshman Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) brought home Caye with a sacrifice fly to put the Pirates back on top, 3-2.
- After two scoreless frames, the Tigers would tie the game at three after an unearned run in the fifth.
- Tied at three heading to the seventh, Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) would pick up back-to-back singles to start the inning before Caye would bring Barracato home with a third-consecutive single to put the Pirates up, 4-3.
- Pacific would put runners on in the seventh, but Smith shut the door to cap off the weekend with a win for the Pirates.
- The Pirates outhit the Tigers 10-5.
- The RBI for Caye was her team-leading 11th of the season.
- Smith tossed five innings without giving up an earned run to pick up her third win of the season.
- Nine different Pirates got into the hit column in the victory.
