Matusz's Equalizer Not Enough In 2-1 Loss To Creighton

South Orange, N.J. - Junior Skyler Matusz (Kearny, N.J.) scored her first goal as a Pirate and the defense put forth a solid effort despite the result in the Seton Hall women's soccer team's 2-1 loss to Creighton on Thursday evening.
How It Happened
Both sides battled torrential rain for a good part of the game but it didn't effect the action on the pitch. The Bluejays controlled the first 25 minutes and they were rewarded with a long-distance score in the 24th minute. The Pirates picked up some momemtum before halftime where senior Julia Aronov (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) put up a shot and sophomores Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) and Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) tallied chances on goal.
The Hall continued to battle after halftime where in the 69th minute Matusz took an aerial pass from junior Alex Fuggle (London, England). Matusz turned, battled through contact, and put a strike on the ball outside the six-yard box and found the back of the net to equalize at 1-1.
Under five minutes away from at least a draw and a point in the BIG EAST standings, the Pirates were holding their own against Creighton, who was 3-0-1 in its last four contests. However, a miscue in the Pirates' back line created an opportunity for the Bluejays and they capitalized by scoring the go-ahead goal with 85:50 on the clock.
