4/6/2018 7:36:00 PM | Softball
Supercynski's walk-off knock came after the Pirates went into the bottom of the seventh down 6-3 and followed a two-run single from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) earlier in the frame. The clutch hit for Arteaga was part of a huge day for the sophomore, who finished with four hits and six RBIs over the course of the two contests.
Game 1 – Providence 8, Seton Hall 6
- How it Happened
- The Friars took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first and tacked on a run in the fourth to go up 3-0
- The Hall got on the board with an RBI double from Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) in the bottom of the fifth, then evened the score at 3-3 with a two-run Arteaga home run in the sixth
- Providence answered quickly, using back-to-back home runs in a five-run top of the seventh inning to take an 8-3 lead
- The Hall continued to fight, with a Sara Foster (Laguna Beach, Calif.) RBI double and a two-run Arteaga single bringing the tying run to the plate before the final result
- News, Notes and Numbers
- The Hall was out-hit 12-8 in the setback and committed the game's lone error
- Arteaga finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored
- The four-RBI effort is tied for the most for a Pirate this season (Destini Peck, 3/2)
- It was Arteaga's fifth multi-RBI game and eighth multi-hit effort
- Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) drew two of The Hall's three walks
- The Pirates were a strong 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position and recorded three two-out RBIs
- Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) started in the circle and recorded six strikeouts
- The Pirates left five runners on base versus seven for the Friars
- How it Happened
- In game two it was the Pirates striking first, going up 2-0 in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run double from Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.)
- The Friars got single runs back in the second and third innings to even the score
- In the bottom of the fourth, Ragen Reddick (Middlesex, N.J.) took home on the back-end of a double-steal attempt to re-take the lead before PC tied it again in the fifth
- In the seventh inning with the score still tied, Providence scored three times to take a 6-3 lead into the final half inning
- Again not deterred, Barracato and Foster singled, Walkden drew a walk and Arteaga smacked a two-run single through the left side to cut the lead to one with no outs
- After a sacrifice put the tying and winning runs in scoring position, Supercynski lifted the game-winning hit into shallow left and saw Walkden and Arteaga cross the plate for the walk-off win
- News, Notes and Numbers
- The win for The Hall came despite a 12-9 deficit in hits, with PC committing the game's only error
- Arteaga, Beaver and Supercysnki each finished with two hits for the Pirates
- Beaver's multi-hit effort was her 11th this year, tied for the team-high
- Arteaga has nine games with at least two hits and Supercynski has four
- Arteaga and Walkden both scored a pair of runs
- Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) notched her team-high seventh win in a complete game effort from the circle
- Walkden drew two more walks and was hit by a pitch - she now holds a .519 on-base percentage through eight conference games despite one hit in 14 official at-bats
- Through eight league games, Arteaga is hitting .360 with 11 RBIs and has a team-high 25 RBIs overall on the year
- Supercynski's walk-off hit was the second for a Pirate this season, following a game-winning Foster single against Appalachian State on Feb. 23
The Pirates will close their series with Providence on Saturday, April 7 at 2 p.m.
