3/2/2018 11:37:00 PM | Softball
Game 1 – Seton Hall 5, SIU Edwardsville 4
- How it Happened
- The Hall got all of its offense in the bottom of the first inning, loading the bases before an RBI single from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) and a grand slam for Peck
- The Cougars battled back with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) entered out of the pen for the final two innings to record a six-out save
- News, Notes and Numbers
- Both sides recorded nine hits and one error in the contest
- Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored
- Peck's grand slam was her first home run of the year and The Hall's lone extra base hit
- Walkden went 2-for-4 with a run scored, her third multi-hit game of the year
- The four RBIs for Peck marked the most for a Pirate in a game this season
- Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) got the start in the circle and allowed one earned in 3.0 innings with four strikeouts, before Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) tossed 2.0 innings and picked up the win
- How it Happened
- The Pirates again struck first, getting an RBI single from Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead
- The Blackbirds answered to even the score in the top of the third with an RBI single
- In the bottom of the third, Walkden smacked a solo home run before Pandolfo notched another RBI single to put The Hall up 3-1
- That would be all of the game's offense, as Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) tossed a complete game six-hitter with one earned run
- News, Notes and Numbers
- The Pirates finished with a 7-6 edge in hits
- Pandolfo and Walkden both went 2-for-3 and combined for all three of SHU's RBIs
- Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) led off for the first time this season and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base
- Walkden's home run was her fifth of the season and the 46th of her career, 13 shy of the program record
- Pandolfo became the eighth different Pirate this season to notch multiple RBIs in a game
The Pirates are back in action at the Madeira Beach Invitational tomorrow, taking on Loyola Chicago and Central Arkansas starting at 4 p.m.
