BALTIMORE – The Seton Hall women's soccer team allowed just three shots in 94 minutes of action Thursday night, but was ultimately outlasted in overtime, 1-0, in its season opener at Loyola (Md.) at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Pirates (0-1) had an excellent chance in the sixth minute when senior captain Andrea Palermo (Caledon, Ontario) fired a header into the bottom half of the crossbar. The ball then careened to sophomore Marissa Aniolowski (Enfield, Conn.) who had another solid header attempt that soared just wide to the left.
On the other end, Loyola (1-2) could not get much going until it capitalized on a corner kick in extra time, as Mary Corcoran finished with a header that grazed the crossbar.
Turning Point
On their only clean scoring chance of the night, the Greyhounds netted the golden goal in the 94th minute off a perfectly-placed corner kick from Julianna Cabrera to Corcoran.
