SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall University freshman catcher Alex Rabbetts (Corona, Calif.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Softball Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
It is the first time in her career Rabbetts has received weekly BIG EAST accolades, and it is the third time this season the Pirates have landed a student-athlete on the conference’s weekly honor roll: sophomore Danielle DeStaso (Feb. 11) and freshman Yasmin Harrell (March 11).
Rabbetts had a monster day at the plate in helping the Pirates earn a doubleheader split with Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 13. While Seton Hall’s offense struggled to get on track in a 1-0 game-one loss to the Panthers, Rabbetts went 2-for-3 at the plate.
She followed that up with her second 2-for-3 performance of the day, only this time both of her hits landed over the left-field wall.
Her first home run of the day was a two-run shot in the fourth inning, giving Seton Hall a 2-1 lead for the first time in the game. With the Pirates up 3-1 in the sixth Rabbetts homered again, this time a solo bomb out to left to lead off the inning.
At the time her second home run of the day appeared to be just added insurance as Seton Hall led by three heading into the seventh, but Pittsburgh rallied for two runs in its last at bat and Rabbetts’ homer proved to be the game-winner.
She finished the weekend batting .571 with two homers and three RBI. Rabbetts also slugged 1.429 and boasted a .625 on-base percentage.
So far this season she has started in all 35 games, making 22-consecutive starts at catcher, and ranks first on the team in on-base percentage (.436), second in home runs (four), third in slugging percentage (.459) and RBI (19) and fifth with a .289 average.
Seton Hall returns to action on Tuesday, April 16, when it hosts Hofstra in a non-conference doubleheader at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field in South Orange, N.J. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
