SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall softball team suffered a pair of setbacks on Tuesday, falling 10-3 and 5-4 to Fordham at Ivy Hill Park.  The Pirates (7-24) return to action on Saturday at St. John’s.

After falling behind 1-0 in game one, SHU stormed back with a three-run second inning.  Ashley Constantini (Newark, Del.) followed a Daria Glynos (Kenilworth, N.J.) walk with a double to make it second and third with one out.  Madon Maile (Jenkintown, Pa.) delivered an RBI single to tie the game at one, and the Pirates then loaded the bases when Allison Gengler (West Chester, Pa.) reached on an error.  Leah Menichetti (Jessup, Pa.) grounded to third and the ball was misplayed, plating the second run.  Kealan Waldron (Oak Park, Ill.) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

The Rams took the lead back in the fourth, with an Allison Storc homerun highlighting a three-run frame.  Fordham would add one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh to pull away for the win.

Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.) took the loss for SHU, falling to 5-13.  She allowed seven runs on 12 hits over six innings.  Menichetti went 2-for-4 at the plate.

In game two, the Rams took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Mary Beth Puccio ripped an RBI double and later scored on a double steal.  The Pirates were held without a baserunner until the fifth inning when Amanda Winn (Manahawkin, N.J.) launched a solo homer to make it 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Menichetti reached on a two-out error that advanced Maile to second base and kept the inning alive.  Waldron followed with a long three-run homerun to left center that gave the Hall a 4-2 lead.

Danielle Zanzalari (Carteret, N.J.) took the mound in the seventh looking for the complete game win for SHU.  But with two on and two outs, Puccio hit a three-run blast to put Fordham back in front by one.  The Pirates put two runners on in the bottom of the inning but could not come up with the tying run.

Zanzalari struck out five while going the distance, yielding six hits along the way.  Waldron’s round-tripper extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
