In the bottom of the fourth, Kealan Waldron (Oak Park, Ill.) laced a two-out double to keep the inning alive, and Steinseifzer knocked her in with a single off the shortstop to make it 9-1. Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.), who allowed a lone run on five hits over five innings while striking out a career-high eight batters, threw a perfect fifth inning to pick up her third win of the year as the mercy rule took effect.
Steinseifzer was 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Waldron also collected a pair of hits. Caitlin Carroll was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart jumped out early in the second game, going up 2-0 on a Betsy Harvey round-tripper off SHU pitcher Ashley Constantini (
The Pioneers tacked on three runs in the top of the third, forcing Seton Hall to scratch its way back into the game. Pease drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on Waldron’s double before later scoring on a passed ball to make it 5-3. In the fifth, Leah Menichetti (
Waldron finished the second game with two more hits and a pair of RBI. Pease, Gengler, and Glynos accounted for the other Pirate hits. Constantini was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs on five hits over 4.2 innings. Just two of the runs, however, were earned. Megan Spehar picked up the win for the Pioneers.
